Depression is a common mental health condition that can happen to anyone. It is generally characterized by my low mood or loss of pleasure/interest in activities.
Depression ranges from severe to mild and encompasses many symptoms and behaviors. There may be feelings of sadness, emptiness or hopelessness and periods of tiredness. At times there may be anger outbursts, irritability or frustration over small things. Frequently there is a loss of interest or pleasure in normal activities. You may have sleep or eating difficulties. Feelings of worthlessness or guilt may be a part of the fixation on the past. You may have difficulty concentrating and making decisions.
Sometime the symptoms are severe enough to cause problems in personal or work relationships. Depression may be caused by many life related events or medical conditions. It is important to distinguish the related causes and get the necessary help so you can return to your everyday life in a productive way.
Cognitive Behavioral therapy is helpful in learning Skills to help determine ways to deal with the causes and effects of depression. It is also helpful in learning how to use the Skills to help manage or avoid bouts of depression.
