Anger is an interesting emotion from the perspective that it triggers so many other emotions or it may be born from other emotions. Anger is a universal and basic human emotion.

Anger is usually distinguished by tension, hostility, and annoyance. It normally occurs as an adaptive response when you sense a threat, injustice, or a blocked goal. When you are angry, your body typically goes into a “fight or flight” response. This prepares you to confront or escape a sensed threat. There are some usual bodily responses such as elevated blood pressure, tensed muscles or other physical or mental/emotional responses when the brain perceives a threat or we believe we are being blocked from pursuing a goal and/or we believe we are being treated unfairly.

Take a look at your world – notice the situations that typically alert you to an anger response. What is the event and how are you evaluating what is happening. Stop – now take another look at the situation and this time do it as though you are CALM, CONFIDENT and PEACEFUL as you assess the situation. Frequently we evaluate what is going on in the present moment using the past as our reference versus logically thinking through (evaluating) the situation based on current circumstances and capabilities.

When you stop and think clearly, you will be able to clarify and respond logically.
